: Full-timeOBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The objective of the programme is to, ensure timely production and dissemination of high quality public information on longstanding and emerging public health issues through various platforms (print, web, broadcast, social media etc.) and in multiple languages; Define and promote a consistent corporate identity for WHO internally and externally; Create a 21st century 'culture of communications' at WHO by strengthening capacity at the country level; Contribute to managing WHO's reputation by monitoring public opinion and concerns, and responding to them strategically; and lead the strategic communications response to epidemics and pandemics, public health emergencies and for the health aspects of humanitarian crises.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
1. Identify subjects/stories of interest to develop and improve media/communication activities pertaining to WHO efforts at the country level. Design state-of-the-art communication materials and tools; ensure the rapid and timely dissemination of information to all partners.
2. Liaise with the press/media to advocate and disseminate information on WHO work as well as relevant events such as WHO campaigns. Organize interviews and filming opportunities to support high visibility of WHO achievements through television, radio and newspapers, etc.
3. Support the development and maintenance of content for the country website, in compliance with guidelines and standards used throughout the Organization, to ensure consistency of approach. Critically review and improve contents, architecture and design.
4. Research and write feature stories and messages, ideally bringing in a human element from real life experiences
5. Prepare communication and advocacy products and statements to be used by the Resource Mobilization team in convincing and encouraging donors to rapidly fund the overall health sector response to affected populations.
6. Collaborate with all relevant actors, including the health cluster, regional and field offices, other WHO departments, UN agencies, and other partners to identify and create communication opportunities and prepare communication campaigns on specific topics.
7. Implement multi hazard risk communications, social mobilization and advocacy plans
8. Support MoH public communications during health crisis, developing talking points, press releases, press statements and other media products
9. Perform any other communication specific related duties, as required by the functional supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: A First University Degree in communication, journalism, political science or international relations or related field from an accredited/recognized institute.
Desirable: Formal qualification in public health; Courses in communication techniques such as graphic design, visual language and in the use of social media. Training in risk communication is an asset.
Experience:
Essential: At least five years’ related experience in communication. Proven experience in writing communications materials.
Desirable:
• Prior working experience with WHO/UN or with an international nongovernmental organization; experience in organizing advocacy campaigns and experience in managing publishing processes.
• Proven experience in writing advocacy documents
• Proven experience in taking photographs or filming video which are of professional quality.
Skills
1. Proven skills in the development and implementation of communication/media products and tactics.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to conceptualize ideas and advocate consensus.
3. Excellent presentation skills
4. Ability to "think out of the box" and to make innovative proposals as related to communication.
5. Knowledge or understanding of WHO mandate and goals in the emergency incident management context.

Use of Language Skills
Essential: Excellent knowledge of the English.
Desirable: Working knowledge of Amharic, Knowledge of French or other UN language.
REMUNERATION
Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 28,573.00 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
